About

Young Billy lives in a South Yorkshire mining community and is treated as harshly at home as he is at school. But his life changes dramatically when he takes charge of a young kestrel. His growing interest in falconry is a pursuit that gives him a sense of being and helps shield him from the bleakness of daily life. Loach’s breakthrough film, which remains one of his finest, is an uncompromising portrait of youth whose harshness is balanced with moments of humour.
